What is your preference, digital, audio, or a standard book in hand? The social media book groups are constantly in conversation with what counts as reading a book, and what doesn’t count.
I will admit, I was once, not so long ago, in the school of counting actual reading with only physical or digital books. However, life happens, and I had eye issues. I have diabetes and complications arose as a consequence of medications. I had retinal damage and to allow healing, it was encouraged that I use alternate forms of enjoying my books. I was introduced to the wonderful kindle app, and audiobooks. It opened up my world because I really don’t exist without my books.
I feel that reading a book is really a misnomer in any case. You enjoy a book, you experience a book, you escape with a book. In that respect, however you do those things, is simply your business and your preference. I will always prefer a real book in hand with the feel of paper pages and the smell of a book. I do enjoy all the formats, because in the end, it is the experience that matters. Read your books however you want, count them if you do, and enjoy every word.
The absolute best way to celebrate a book is to share it, and if you can, read it to someone who can’t enjoy it any other way. I would love to hear your thoughts.
