The People We Keep by Allison Larkin
This is a fantastic coming of age story!
April, a young song writer longs for the one thing she has never had, a place to belong, a home. Abandoned and left to survive on her own, April sets off to find her place in the world, with no destination goal. She rests in Ithaca, NY, where she finds kindred spirits, a found family with a coffee shop at its center. She survives with her secrets until the people around her get too close and she fears her circumstances will hurt them. Then she runs.
Running is a learned behavior when you exist in survival mode.
April’s life is chronicled with her music. A guitar and an old car are her anchors. She finds her family along the way as she discovers that she can be more than the circumstances that she came from.
This was such a beautiful journey with April Sawicki. I savored it and devoured it. I absolutely loved the journey!
This was a book that I picked up while strolling through my local library, one of my favorite ways to discover hidden gems like this one! Bonus, it comes in Large Print! 4.5/5⭐
